The National Labor Relations Board’s decisions impact all employers, even those that do not have a union.  With the recent changes in the composition of the NLRB, how will this impact employers?  This session will look at what is to come for employers.


Steptoe partner Steve Wheeless leads the firm's nationwide labor & employment group.  He practices nationally, representing clients large and small in numerous industries and locations.  Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Wheeless served as a United States Air Force F-16 Instructor Pilot and a Diplomatic Exchange Officer to the Royal Danish Air Force.


The Ever Changing Landscape of Immigration

U.S. immigration continues to be an evolving and  volatile issue in the U.S.   It has been a hot topic in the past several presidential elections.   Each new administration brings the promise or threat of immigration reform.   This presentation will cover the possible or already in process immigration changes that could have an impact on your employees or business.   We will cover what companies can do to prepare for any possible changes that may arise.

Jill Bloom has devoted her career to immigration law, with a focus on business immigration and making strategic partnerships with clients of all sizes.  She began her practice with our Troy, Michigan office in 1999, where she served as an Associate until 2003.  Thereafter, she continued her practice with the Global Mobility and Immigration division of a large U.S. law firm from 2003 until February 2008, when she rejoined Fragomen.  Jill currently represents and manages small, medium and large corporate clients in a variety of industries.  She advises on all aspects of business immigration law, including nonimmigrant visas, permanent residency with a focus on PERM, expatriate assignments, strategic compliance, and immigration support for corporate restructuring.  Additionally, Jill advises on a wide range of family-based immigration issues.


Arizona’s Earned Paid Sick Time

The history of Earned Paid Sick Time (EPST) from voter initiative to current enforcement with an emphasis on public resources made available by the Arizona Labor Department.

EPST will be considered through the lens of employer responsivity and employee rights according to current statute as well as rules and regulations.

Courtney Hayden is a Program and Project Specialist with the Arizona Industrial Commission's Labor Department.  She received her B.S. from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington,

Courtney began her career with tribal government as an education specialist.  In 2015, she transitioned to investigations with the State of Arizona.  She is currently employed as the lead investigator for Earned Paid Sick Time, Minimum Wage, and Youth Employment.  In addition, she is responsible for Labor Department outreach and has represented the Department in presentations to the American Subcontractor's Association of Arizona and at the Arizona/California 12th Annual Agricultural Employer Seminar of 2017.
