SHRMGP Committees

A number of opportunities exist for members to actively participate in the programs and projects of the association.  In addition to the following formal committees, there are, from time-to-time, various task forces and short-term projects, which allow members to contribute their talents with time commitments that fit their busy schedules.  We encourage you to contact any committee chair or board liaison to find out more about these opportunities, or to sign up!   Thank you for your interest and your participation.

 

College Relations:  This committee provides an “outreach” opportunity for SHRMGP in developing professional relationships with students who are currently pursuing a degree in an HR-related field and who want to follow this career path.   This committee assists students by providing a supportive role in broadening the student’s practical knowledge of the field; serving as mentors, identifying internship opportunities, or speaking to classes at the various college programs.   Active student participation in SHRMGP is encouraged, and the association offers a unique opportunity for the Student Faculty Advisor to participate as well.  Board Liaisons is Eric Knott Eric@FinePointHR.com.

 

Communications/Public Relations:  The mission is to provide forums to encourage and facilitate the sharing of information on matters relating to human resources management for the purposes of professional development and networking.

We provide a voice to SHRMGP and to the professional practice of human resources.  A voice that speaks of the positive impact SHRMGP has on the human resources field and of the positive impact human resources professionals have on the community as a whole. We will help to enhance the perception of human resources professionals as strategic business partners for their organizations and the community.  The purpose of the SHRMGP Communication & Public Relations Committee is to publicize the activities of the Association among its members and other interested parties and groups and provide vehicles for sharing news and current activities in the Human Resources field.

This is an energized committee that works great together as a team. If you have marketing or media connections, if you enjoy the marketing side of the business, or you just want to be part of a fun team doing cool things join our team!  Committee Board Liaison:  Stacy Benson stacy.benson@cox.net.   

 

Finance Committee:  This committee assists SHRMGP’s Treasurer and the Board of Directors in preparing and monitoring the association’s annual budget.  The committee reviews the checking, savings and investment accounts of the association, considers members’ request for funds in support of Professional Development, and determines the appropriate use of the association’s Special Events and Activities Fund.    This committee makes recommendations to the Board regarding the financial status and expenditures of SHRMGP.  Treasurer is Lorie Birk  lorieannbirk@gmail.com

 

Law and Legislative Action Committee:  This committee increases SHRMGP’s participation in creating and influencing HR legislation in the State of Arizona, as well as on a national basis.  It provides our members with pertinent updates on pending legislation and educates our association on the legislative processes.  The “LAC” committee, as it is often called, arranges for legislators to meet HR Professionals in the community and strongly encourages grassroots efforts by writing or calling legislators to “lend a voice”  on specific HR-related issues.  Board Liaison is Eric Dowell  Eric.Dowell@ogletreedeakins.com.   

 

Membership Experience Committee:  The lifeblood of our organization is our members.  The Membership Committee plays a vital role in encouraging HR Professionals to join SHRMGP, and in serving as a primary resource for information about the association and the benefits of membership.  This committee provides continuous contact with members, including answering prospective members’ inquiries, processing member applications, conducting new member orientation, and being the point of contact for individuals once they become members.    It also assists the Board from time-to-time in evaluating categories of membership and conducting formal membership drives.  Committee Chair is Charlotte Newman  cnewman_brown@cox.net.

 

Professional Development Committee:  One of the most valued benefits of membership is the monthly educational program provided at membership meetings.  This committee evaluates and selects speakers, identifies relevant topics for the yearly program, coordinates all of the logistical details, and ensures that the content and presentation style is consistent with the level of sophistication of our members.  This committee also collects evaluation forms and provides the Board with feedback on the results.  Board Liaison is Phebe Jones  phebe.jones@allscripts.com.

 

Holiday Committee:  This committee plans all aspects of one of the most popular events for the Association – the Holiday Party.  The committee’s membership plans all aspects of the night:  decorations, agenda, food, music, etc.  This is always a popular committee!  Feel free to join the team! Community Partnership/Sponsorship Committee:  This committee provides our members and companies the opportunity to provide our members with services, discount to seminars, and information by sponsoring our membership and networking meetings. In addition, this committee also provides information for advertising in our newsletter.  Board Liaison is Krisanne Elsner ke@elsnerhr.com.           

 

Workforce Readiness Committee:  SHRMGP is interested in creating partnerships between employers, high schools, community colleges, community based organizations and One-Stop Career centers to address the workplace challenges that arise when current and future members of the workforce are not ready to meet the upcoming skills and knowledge requirements necessary to thrive in the workforce.  Please email contact@shrmgp.org.

 

Mentorship:  Through participation in a one-year cohort program, mentees gain knowledge from senior HR mentors, group programs and other mentoring participants. The Mentoring Committee has an ongoing need for Senior HR professionals to serve as mentors as well as Mentoring Liaison committee members. Board Liaison is Megan McQuade for further details.
